The importance of your gut microbiome is not new news. You should be on a probiotic, drink kombucha, eat sauerkraut or kimchi or active culture yogurts. But can you control your gut? Can you take a probiotic to achieve a certain goal?
The answer is yes.
This is not new news. Bacterial strains have been linked to all sorts of disease processes: Crohns, heart disease, MS, and diabetes. We have a particular focus on diabetes and glucose control, as there are so many studies indicating glucose control is key to many disease processes, from diabetes to inflammation, heart disease, and cancer. For our patients doing weight loss on semaglutide and tirzepatide, our hope is that our probiotic which includes these active strains found to help with diabetes may help our weight loss patients lose weight faster, aid in digestion, and give them assistance when they taper off the medications.
We liked this meta analysis study of multiple randomized controlled trials which was published in 2020 in Diabetes Metabolism Research and Review Journal. “Probiotics for the treatments of Type 2 Diabetes: A Review of Randomized Controlled Trials.”
Why is this journal article great?
- Randomized controlled trials are the best to get true data.
- These trials looked at probiotics effect on glycemic control: fasting plasma glucose, fasting plasma insulin, HbA1c, and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance among adults with type 2 diabetes.
- Evidence showed:
- Multistrain probiotics that contain 7 million to 100 Billion colonies (CFU)
- Lactobacillus acidophilus, Strept thermophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, and/or Bifidobacterium lactis
- Effects seen after 6-12 weeks
They conclude further studies need to be done to find the best dose, medium, and duration “most effective for disease management.”
How can Biohackr Health help?
WE HAVE A PROBIOTIC. After looking at other brands, we decided to make our own. High quality is important to us, and our probiotic is quality checked by a third party NSF certified lab. We also wanted value. By directly making the product, we are lowering costs without sacrificing quality.
Our probiotic contains Lactobacillus, Bacillus, and Bifidobacterium with billions of CFUS. We added ingredients to aid in digestion and bowel regularity.
The science is real. Again, our goal is lower glucose. Study after study indicates that glucose control and insulin resistance may be a root cause of many illnesses, from heart disease to cancer to dementia- not just diabetes. For those patients attempting weight loss, our hope is that it may facilitate weight loss and help them transition off the medications when they reach their goal.
