Magnagnese is a trace element found in rocks, soil, water, and food.

What Does Manganese Do?

Manganese is essential for bone development, energy metabolism, enzyme activation, nervous system functions, immune function, and reproductive hormone function. Its effects on reproduction are as a cofactor for enzymes necessary in cholesterol synthesis. Steroid hormones are necessary for cholesterol synthesis. It also has reproductive effects on the hypothalamus. It helps with blood clotting and hemostasis in conjunction with Vitamin K. For a great summary of the science of Manganese, click here.

Source: Whole grains, clams, oysters/mussels, nuts, soybeans, legumes, rice, leafy vegetables, coffee/tea/spices. Most manganese consumed in foods is not absorbed, and ends up in your stool via bile.

Deficiency: Rare in humans. Symptoms are not well-established. No groups have been identified as at risk.

You can have too much manganese in your body. This is not common, but can happen due to genetics or in the case of some environmental hazards, like those in steel manufacturing. Elevated intake presents with tremors, muscle spasm, hearing loss, and unsteadiness. Those with liver disease are at a higher risk, as they cannot eliminate manganese in the bile.

  • Can lead to nervous system issues, causing progressive destruction of nerve cells.
  • Accumulation has been observed with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Huntingtons, and ALS.

How Can Biohackr Health Help?

TESTING. We repeat this over and over, but you must know your levels. Our micronutrient analysis test from our Biohackr Benchmark program helps you determine your levels. Manganese is one vitamin in which you do not want to be too low or too high. Both are detrimental.

EBO2 treatment. It is unclear if this would help with excess, but it could be something to consider. There are no published studies. EBO2 is an advanced filtration therapy designed to filter your blood, ozonate and oxygenate your blood, and remove heavy metals, toxins, and inflammation.
