When you look at that list, you see why we are biohacking. If there are things we can do to lower your risk of atherosclerosis, which leads to heart disease and strokes, we should be doing it. Diabetes and glucose and insulin resistance issues are important. Not only is diabetes bad, but it is a risk factor for heart disease and likely contributes to cancer, inflammation, and dementia. All of these things need to be addressed, starting early. Once issues are established — neurodegeneration, plaques in your arteries — it is hard or impossible to reverse. Addressing issues in your 40s and 50s sets you up for later life. Prevention is key.
How Can I Reduce My Risk of Heart Disease and Other Conditions?
- Many believe the easiest risk factor to reverse is the chance of heart disease. Check your cholesterol panel, including ApoB levels. Get on statins, and if those fail, PCSK9 inhibitors may help. Get testing done at Biohackr Health through our Biohackr Benchmark. ApoB is thought to be a better indicator of atherosclerosis risk, as these lipoproteins penetrate artery walls and start atherosclerosis. Evaluate heart risk by doing a cardiac calcium scan, part of our Biohackr Benchmark program. Do a deeper dive into your cholesterol levels with a comprehensive cholesterol panel, which includes ApoB.
- Lower your insulin resistance/glucose levels. Many believe blood sugar leads to inflammation, and that is a root cause of almost every disease process — cancer, heart disease and atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes. Take our Biohackr Health Probiotic +, which has strains meant to lower insulin resistance. NAD is thought to help. For blogs on NAD far reaching effects, read HERE. Do insulin panel testing. We have a comprehensive insulin panel, including HbA1C.
- We are fans of NAD. The mitochondria are the powerhouse of every cell in your body. NAD effects are promising from the studies done.
- Keep those telomeres long. See all of our blogs on anti-aging. Many factors which we keep seeing in the people who are the superagers, those who avoid dementia, those who live in the blue zones are not treatments a doctor or clinic can provide. In the list above, many of the mortality causes are interlinked. Biohacking to address these will reduce your risk in multiple areas. The first order of business for most issues is testing. You should not throw the kitchen sink at everything for everyone. Your genetics and lifestyle affect what YOUR issues are.
We created the comprehensive Biohackr Benchmark test specifically for this reason. It looks at your heart disease risk and cardiac calcium, cancer risk (from oncogenes to current status), diabetes risk, micronutrient levels, weight/fat/and muscle body make-up, and more. If you have done some of the testing, finish your panel. Once you have done so, it will help you narrow what your specific issues are.
