HomeBlogWhat Supplements Help Your Hair Grow?

How can you help your hair grow? That is a million dollar question, and part of why we developed a supplement for our Biohackr Health patients. There are lots of options out there. We private-labeled it to give you more quality for less money, and to insure it meets our rigorous standards. (All of our supplements are NSF-certified).

What Does Our Hair Growth Supplement Include?

Some things you have heard of before:

  • Biotin
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Zinc

But others, you may not be as familiar with:

  • Selenium is an antioxidant, protects from UV radiation, and may prevent premature hair graying, reduces dandruff by killing the fungus that causes dandruff, and is essential for the production of thyroid hormones which help regulate hair growth.
  • Collagen, which thins the blood and improves blood flow circulation. Is thought to strengthen hair (and is good for skin and nails)
  • Hyaluronic Acid helps seal the cuticle, to lock in moisture and reduce frizz.
  • L Cysteine is an amino acid. It is grouped often with keratin treatments, and thought to reduce frizz, tame unruly hair, and repair and strengthen hair by rebonding broken keratin proteins. (A topical cysteine treatment is thought to be more gentle than traditional keratin treatments, so a good choice for those with sensitivities or damaged hair.)
  • L Lysine, an amino acid, is thought to help hair retain its shape, volume, and elasticity (to make it less likely to break), and assists with calcium absorption. It helps increase collagen production. Can be important to supplement if you are vegan or an athlete.
  • L Methionine, another antioxidant, is thought to help with tissue growth, metabolism, and detoxification of harmful substances in the body.
  • Saw Palmetto for hormone support
  • Turmeric, an anti-inflammatory, and it has vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients to strengthen hair follicles and increase scalp circulation
  • Ashwagandha is a well-known supplement to reduce the stress hormone, cortisol, to prevent hair thinning.
  • Holy Basil, which reduces stress and inflammation
  • Resveratrol is another antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It may help shirt hair follicles out of telogen into the anagen phase.
  • Black Pepper extract has nutrients like Vitamins A, C, antioxidants, and carotenoids, to stimulate hair growth and make it thicker. It is thought to be anti-inflammatory, reduces premature graying of hair, and reduce dandruff causing bacteria.

As with all things hair thinning and loss, we strongly recommend you start early (don’t wait until it is more of a problem). You should attack it using multiple methods (see minoxidil, our microneedling with PRP, and other treatments), and do not expect a quick change.

Treatments are slow and subtle, but effective for most. Expect changes to happen over the course of months, not days or weeks.
