NMN stands for “nicotinamide monomucleotide.” It’s an oral supplement that is a precursor to NAD+. Taking supplements of NMN has been shown to increase NAD levels in the body.
Oral Supplements: NMN vs. NR
Why take an NMN supplement versus nicotinamide riboside (NR)? Both of these options are shown to increase NAD levels. So why choose one over the other?
- NMN is converted into NR in your body. Due to this, the cost for NMN is half the price of NR.
- NR has been seen to be unstable in many of its formulations, so NMN was used. There is a recent trend to NR fused with borate to make it stable.
NMN vs. IV NAD
NAD vs. NMN (NAD precursor): This is trickier, as it has been impossible to measure “NAD” levels easily in the body.
- Our current ability through blood spot testing has shown oral NMN to increase tested NAD levels better than IV formulations.
- Many think IV NAD+ addresses different areas when compared to the oral form, with the IV being a loading dose, giving more immediate changes and affecting immunity and inflammation. With the thought, the oral form NMN acts longer term and affects us on the cellular level more.
- Current recommendations for NAD courses recommend both IV with oral. See our protocol.
Where Do I Get NMN?
Remember, this is a burgeoning field and there is a lot of snake oil out there. We searched the entire country and tested NMN samples (with testing our own baseline NAD levels before starting the NMN regimen and after) before we started carrying our brand. Our NMN showed improvement in NAD levels, and has high levels of quality control and regulation.
We are trying to bring quality, testing, and science to this rapidly expanding area.
